Since ancient times Rishikesh has had a special place in Hindu culture and this place is associated with many Hindu legends. Because of its religious value, daily life in Rishikesh is full of pious activities, as in many other Holy cities of India, only vegetarian food is served in Rishikesh. Alcohol is also banned in the city.
Dress code
To respect the local culture, a dress code is recommended, even on your own balcony or in the garden. Typically, this applies to women whose shoulders and legs should be covered. Categorically, it is not necessary to be naked during ablution in the Ganges in public places, especially this again applies to women: they are recommended to take ablution in outerwear.
